Who we are
The industry has a story worth telling. Part of that story is what it gives back.
South Texas has always run on energy — and not just the kind that comes out of the ground. It runs on the hard work of families who've built careers in this industry, the communities that grew up alongside the rigs and pipelines, and the people who show up every day to do work the rest of the country depends on.
The South Texas Energy Foundation exists to give back to those people and those places.
We are a South Texas charitable foundation funded by and connected to the energy industry — operators, landmen, service companies, and the professionals who make it all work. Our mission is simple: take what this industry produces and reinvest it into the communities where it matters most.
What we do
We support charitable causes, community initiatives, and giving opportunities across South Texas. From events that bring the industry together in the spirit of giving, to grants and contributions that make a direct impact on people's lives — the Foundation is a vehicle for the energy community to do more than just work here. To belong here.
Where we are today
The Foundation was formed in April 2026 and received IRS recognition as a 501(c)(3) public charity the same year. Our first full program year centers on the Oil Baron's Classic and direct support for two South Texas oilfield families. Scholarship and community grant programs are in development for 2027.
Leadership
Board of Directors
The Foundation is governed by a volunteer board. No director receives compensation from the Foundation.
Co-founder and President of MYR Land Services, a San Antonio land services firm handling mineral title, curative, due diligence and land management for operators across Texas and beyond. A landman since 2010 and a Baylor graduate, he is also the founder of LandmanLife, a long-running blog and community for land professionals. Founding director; serves as President and chairs venue and hospitality for Foundation events.
Founder and President of RG Land Services, a San Antonio land services firm that has worked oil and gas projects across Texas, New Mexico and Wyoming since 2012. A Certified Professional Landman and Texas A&M graduate, he built the firm around experienced professionals and the AAPL code of ethics. Founding director; serves as Vice President and Secretary of the Foundation and as Event Chair for the Oil Baron's Classic.
President and CEO of HalconAguas, a South Texas wireline, consulting and well-services company with offices in San Antonio and Cotulla. A West Point graduate and Army aviation veteran, he began his energy career in Eagle Ford operations with Chesapeake Energy before moving into oilfield technology and, later, ownership. Founding director; serves as Treasurer of the Foundation and as Event Treasurer for the Oil Baron's Classic, with oversight of event finances.

Donors are entitled to know exactly who they are giving to. Here is the Foundation's public record.
- Governed by adopted bylaws with a written conflict of interest policy, executed annually by every director and officer.
- No director or officer receives compensation from the Foundation.
- Payments over $5,000 require two authorized signatures, one of which must be the Treasurer.
- Annual Form 990-series information return, required to be filed with the IRS each year.
